100 YEARS OF HISTORY

“Saddle Lake – that’s the place to buy property!”  Those were the words said to Charles P. Meeker on a fishing trip in 1907. Due to the fragile health of one of their daughters, Charles and his wife, Amy, knew they needed some place calm and serene  – just what they found at beautiful, Saddle Lake. Together they managed to scrape together the $25 needed to buy this piece of property. That same year, the Meekers went to work building the house. Since Charles worked in Chicago with the Hebrew Mission, he commuted home to the lake and his family on the weekends. His wife stayed at the lake and cared for their five children. The youngest, Esther, was born in the house. Of historical interest is the original corncrib which still stands in the backyard.

We enjoy not only the serenity of the place, but the feeling of roots it has given us since we are grandchildren of the Meekers. It is our desire that your stay here will refresh you in body and soul as it has us and others over the 100 years this house has stood. May God bless your vacation with His peace and love.
